It comes with 10.5-inch tubeless tires, very plush adjustable front and rear suspension, dual discs, and a winter-approved IPX6 weather resistance rating. Expect around 25–29 miles of real-world range, though, which is about what the Segway Max G3 with the same size battery did in my tests. Skip it if you want a light scooter, but it’s the perfect pick if you want a heavy-duty commuter for the next few years.

Under $400 you’ll mostly see sluggish 36V scooters with the rare exception, but you get a truly capable commuter here with a 477Wh 48V battery and 500W rear motor (1,000W peak), 10-inch tubeless tires and dual suspension. It’s strong enough for hilly commutes, and the battery is good for realistically 20–25 miles. Top speed is 20 mph, which is plenty for most city commuting. It’s a tad heavy at 49.8 lbs, but that makes the scooter feel grounded, and it’s built to be comfortable like that.

The Vmax VX2 Extreme ST is a more nimble scooter that takes up less space. It’s not ultralight, but it’s light for its speed, range and the power it has. It’s on sale for $699 (down from $1,299), the lowest price we’ve tracked on it.

Expect around 22–25 miles on a charge. It’s best if you have smooth streets, since there’s no suspension. The large tubeless tires help a lot with vibrations (especially if you run them slightly below the recommended PSI), but they’re not a full replacement for suspension. On the other hand, it uses regen and a drum brake and is just overall a low-maintenance pick. Fewer critical moving parts, less maintenance.

Same frame, motor, and 25 mph top speed as the ST above, with a smaller 499Wh battery rated for 28 miles (figure on 18 miles or so in hard riding). If your commute is on the short side, I’d just get this one and save the $100. At $599 it’s half off.
