The Razor E Prime Air is a new electric scooter from one of the most reputable companies in the field. With a top speed of 15 MPH and an air-filled 8″ front tire, you’re in for a comfortable and fun ride.

Today we look at all the pros and cons of the E Prime Air before weighing them together to see how good this electric scooter actually is.

Range & Speed

The Razor E Prime Air is powered by a 250-watt hub-driven motor. The scooter is able to reach a top speed of 15 miles per hour. This is fairly decent with pricing considered although it by no means is the fastest on the market.

The range of the E Prime Air is less impressive. According to Razor, a full charge will take you 7.5 miles or about 40 minutes of continuous riding (whichever comes first). For an electric scooter with this price tag, you’d expect more, to be honest. It seems to be a common theme with Razor that most of their scooters have a low range.

In comparison, the MegaWheels S5 offers up to 13 miles on a charge while being notably cheaper.

If you care about range and want a scooter for commuting, the Razor E Prime Air is probably a let-down.

Construction

Razor E Prime AirNow on to something that actually impressed us. The build quality is overall very good on this electric scooter.

The Razor E Prime Air only weighs 21.78 pounds which is quite lightweight considering its power. This is due to material choices throughout the construction. For instance, both the frame and the downtube is designed from high-quality aluminum.

The actual deck itself is 5.5 inches wide which seems to be just about the soft spot for this particular product.

The handles are made from molded soft rubber, which ensures a steady and comfortable grip.

Now, there is a regular E Prime model and then there is the E Prime Air. The difference is that the front wheel is a pneumatic air-filled tire. Generally, air tires are superior to the airless rubber ones. The front tire ensures a much smoother ride as opposed to scooters with airless ones.

So that is really what you’re paying a little extra for. A pneumatic tire that greatly improves the smoothness of your ride. Whether it is worth it is up to you, but we can definitely confirm there is a vast difference between the two wheel types.

Keep in mind that the back wheel is not pneumatic. Instead, it is a flat-free and abrasion-resistant design without air in it. Really high-end scooters use air in both wheels but just having air in the front wheel is enough for a smooth ride when the speed cap is 15 MPH.

Safety

Razor E Prime AirOne of the reasons why Razor are where they are today is because of their strong focus on rider safety and user-friendliness. They’ve established themselves as a brand with great support and scooters that don’t go too fast. It is much more about having a fun experience for them. This makes them ideal for kids – though several of there products would work for adults as well (including this one).

The rechargeable 36V battery pack found inside the Razor E Prime Air is UL2771 safety certified against common malfunctions and fire hazards.

Razor themselves advise that this scooter is for people 14 years and up, though we feel kids above 11 would be able to enjoy it.

The max rider weight for this particular model is 200 lbs. It’s not very high but considering that the product is designed to be lightweight, there’s really nothing to complain about here.

All this being said Razor made a slip-up in our opinion. There are no LED lights on the front or back of the electric scooter. This make you exposed if you’re riding in low-light settings. Frankly, in some areas, it is mandatory to have front and back LEDs equipped for visibility. You can, however, just get a pair of bike lights and attach them to the scooter.

Customer Service

Razor E Prime AirRazor provides a 90-day limited warranty on all their electric rideables. While this is fine on the cheaper models, we feel this is a little low for a model in excess of $400. Many competitors will offer you 180 days or even a year for similarly priced products.

That being said, the overall support from Razor is great. There is plenty of safety information on their website and they can be reached on phone and email on all weekdays.

A nice addition is that they have an interactive list with service centers here. Here you can simply enter your location and their website will list all service locations within a select radius.

The full product manuals are also available on the Razor website.

Downsides

Razor E Prime AirIn our opinion, there are two major downsides to the Razor E Prime Air electric scooter.

1: The electric scooter has a low range. In this price range, you’d expect to get more than 7.5 miles out of a charge, so that is quite disappointing.

2: There are no LED lights on the front and rear of the scooter. Without this, you won’t be able to illuminate yourself in low-light settings so this can be quite dangerous. In some areas, this is even against the law.

If you can live with these two downsides, the E Prime Air may still be something for you. The design is pretty good, it is lightweight and provides a smooth ride due to its pneumatic front tire.

Who Should Buy The Razor E Prime Air?

This electric scooter is for people who just want to have a reliable piece of fun to spend some time with once in a while. If you want something portable and lightweight that folds together nicely for easy transportation, the E Prime Air is definitely a decent option.

The handlebar is adjustable and the front tire is pneumatic. This provides a smooth ride for riders both tall and short.

Final Verdict

Razor E Prime Air Review ThumbnailWhile the Razor E Prime Air certainly is pretty to look at, it does have its shortcomings. Especially the fact that there are no LED lights bother us. The range is not something you’d speak highly about either.

While it has some decent selling points such as its low weight, decent 15 MPH top speed and an air-filled 8″ front tire, we feel you can get better products at the same price.

Ind the end, the final decision whether to buy or not is yours but we feel like Razor could have done better with this one. It just about breaks even considering its pros and cons.

In our opinion, there are just one too many negative things to speak about in order to give it a higher rating.
