For all-terrain riding and exploring, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better electric skateboard than the Backfire Ranger X2. It’s a big upgrade from the Ranger X1 and somehow manages to be four times lighter. Features like a powerful and efficient motor and battery system, great construction, fantastic wheels, and a new remote make this board perfect for all-terrain riders. Let’s take a closer look.
With an all-terrain electric skateboard, the motor is very important. The Backfire Ranger X2 uses a hub motor because of certain tests Backfire performed. With a belt motor, they learned the skateboard can only run a few seconds in the sand. The sand ended up in the gears and belt, shutting it down. Therefore, the hub motor was the better choice. The system is fully sealed so sand, dirt, and water don’t cause problems. There are a total of two 1200-watt motors in the Backfire Ranger X2.
The 12S, 50.4V battery is also worth talking about, as it runs at a much lower temperature than in previous models. This means the saved energy can generate more power and give the skateboard more range. You’ll get 16-18.5 miles of range with a top speed of 22 mph. The hill grade is 30%. Charge time takes about 5 hours. Considering how powerful the motor system is, this time makes sense. It’s also an hour shorter than the X1.
The Backfire Ranger X2 has a specially-designed deck with a curve, so the rider’s feet are supported. It’s also very flexible which helps significantly reduce vibrations on rough roads. Since you’ll be riding on all kinds of terrain, you don’t want vibrations. The double kingpin trucks are also great and give you a minimum turning radius of 2 meters. Weight-wise, Backfire recommends riders be at max 245 pounds. The board itself weighs 23.8 pounds, which is fairly light for a solid all-terrain skateboard. It’s actually 8 pounds lighter than the Ranger X1 was.
When you’re going through rougher environments, you want to be sure the board is protected. The Ranger X2 is water-resistant and dustproof, while parts like the ESC and battery modules are also covered and protected.
The Backfire Ranger X2 has large 6.5-inch wheels that are made of a thickening honeycomb structure. This means they are airless, so you don’t need to worry about punctures.
This special rubber also has improved friction, which helps with shock absorption. They’re also independently replaceable, which we really appreciate.
Due to its strong power and large wheels, the Backfire Ranger X2 is one of the best all-terrain electric skateboards that money can buy.
The Backfire Ranger X2 gets a remote upgrade. While the older version used a Hobbywing remote, the Ranger X2 has an R2 wireless with OLED display. You can see stats like your speed, distance traveled, battery life, and more – all in a neat interface.
Like all Backfire electric skateboards, the Ranger X2 has a 180-day warranty. During that time, you can receive warranty repairs by contacting the Support team, giving your order number, and explaining the problem. What Support team you should contact depends on where you live.
For Europe and the US, the offices are in Hamburg and Richmond, respectively. Everywhere else contacts the office in China. You can get a refund for a board, but it must be in brand-new condition and sent back within 7 days of purchase. You pay the return shipping cost.
The only major downside with the Backfire Ranger X2 is how expensive it is. Based on the power and features you’re getting, the price is probably fair for many riders, but for the more budget-conscious, it might be too much. In that case, you may want to check our guide on cheap electric skateboards.
If you are in love with Backfire boards but can’t find the money for the X2, you may wanna check the Backfire G2T as an alternative.
If you love riding on a variety of terrains – dirt, grass, sand, etc – this is a great electric skateboard. Backfire has incorporated lots of design features that set you up for success, like a fully-sealed system, powerful motor, curved deck shape, honeycomb structure wheels, and more. No matter where your commute takes you, you’ll get a good range and speed on all types of terrain.
Backfire has created a very impressive electric skateboard built for rough terrains. The Backfire Ranger X2 is a big upgrade from the Ranger X1. It’s lighter, more efficient, and more powerful. If you want to be able to ride on terrain like grass and sand in addition to smooth, flat pavement, this board is a great choice. It has speed and range, too, which is great for commuters. While pricey, it has the features and design to support the expense. It’s built to last.
All in all, one of the best electric skateboards around for off-road riding. We highly recommend it if you have the money to go the extra mile with your purchase.
